In mid-2020 when the pace of things had slowed somewhat and I had for once some free time on my hands, I had the idea to begin work on this mixtape-style album that looks back and pulls together from a selection of unreleased compositions and improvisations that were gathering dust in my personal archive up until that point. These pieces were written and produced going as far back as 2008 and up to as recently as 2016. The mix stitches these compositions together with snippets of live recordings from various Microdeform gigs over the years to help things flow across the two sidelong mixes. Sometime in 2021, the mixes were completed and these recordings were then played back through a chain of effects units with some dub-style live processing added for a finishing touch.

The music isn't laid out chronologically at all and zips back and forth between different time periods, but instead focuses more on a sonic journey through the various stylistic deviations that I've played with over the years. It was an enjoyable and oddly therapeutic process to put this all together and the more loose mixtape format offered me a chance to present material that didn't necessarily fit in with the albums that I was making at the time that the pieces were created.

Some of these tracks I had toyed with putting out in some form or another many times over the previous years, but this finally seemed like the right way to do it and also provided a nice way to draw a line under it all and move on!

The title is perhaps quite a dramatic sounding statement but seems kind of appropriate to the uncertain times in which the project was birthed and it also has a slightly clichéd self-help vibe to it which I like, so at once serious and not so serious. A certain duality to it all…
